MCNA’s contract to serve members enrolled in the Iowa Dental Wellness Plan (DWP) and DWP Kids will end on June 30, 2026. All MCNA members can choose their new dental plan during the Annual Choice Period from April 13 – June 18. You can find information about the Annual Choice Period on the Iowa Health & Human Services website and in the Annual Choice letter that was mailed to DWP and DWP Kids members.

MCNA adopts Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) that are based on the best available evidence by national dental groups such as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Dental Association (ADA). These CPGs help our dentists make the best decisions about your oral health and dental treatment. You can find our most up-to-date CPGs in the Guides and Tools section on our website.

MCNA would like to share an upcoming change to the way orthodontic treatment is approved under Iowa Medicaid. Starting October 1, 2025, orthodontic treatment will be approved using Automatic Qualifying Conditions (ACQs) instead the Salzmann Evaluation Index (SEI). The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is making this change to streamline the approval process for members and dental providers.
